      Missions

Our Church is very active in missions and in sharing God's love with the world around us. As a congregation we believe that we are called to minister to those in need in both spiritual and tangible ways.  On the fourth Monday of every month we prepare and serve dinner to the hungry of our community. We are active in the life of the Ramona Food and Clothes Closet and the In His Steps Recovery homes. We provide community leadership for the CROP Walk for the Hungry and Christmas Food Program. We travel to Mexico regularly to build homes for families there and care for the educational needs of several children in Tijuana's poorest colonias. Everyone from our youngest Sunday schoolers to our oldest members are encouraged to put their faith to work through the mission life of our church.  Continue on this page for more in depth information on some of our biggest projects, or click on the link to the left.

Corazon:  Through the non-profit organization "Corazon" (In Spanish, "Heart") we are very active in ministry in Northern Baja California.  Twice a year, First Congregational Church builds a simple, lasting home for a needy Mexican family.  Each April and November we accomplish the home build in a single long, but exciting day.  In 2005 we celebrated the building of our 25th home.

In addition to the homebuilding mission, our church sponsors an elementary, middle school and high School youth and provides for the costs of their education.  We also collect blankets and jackets for folks in the Tijuana colonias who need that gift of warmth.

To offer your help or for more information, contact our church Mission Board or Corazon directly at www.corazon.org.  As Corazon says: "There are no Borders on Dreams and No Boundaries on Hope."

CROP Walk:  Each October our Church joins with thousands of other congregations across the country in the CROP Walk for the Hungry.  Members of our church family gather sponsors and then walk 5 Kilometers to raise awareness and funds to fight world hunger.  Of the money raised 25% stays in Ramona to help with local hunger needs and 75% goes to the areas of greatest need in our world.  In 2004 we had 100 walkers from our church participate and we raised over $9000.

In His Steps: In His Steps is a Ramona based ministry dedicated to helping people with Alcohol, Drug and other Life controlling problems.  There are residential homes for both men and women.  First Congregational is one of nine local churches who offer financial and personal commitments to the program.  The In His Steps family worships in our Sanctuary every Wednesday evening.

Christmas Season Missions: The months of November and December are especially active months for our Missions program.  In November we participate in Operation Christmas Child, as church members and friends pack shoe boxes full of gifts for Children in need.  In December we begin our ADOPT-A-FAMILY Christmas mission, and furnish all the ingredients necessary for 15 needy families to have a wonderful Christmas.  Through the Ramona Food and Clothes Closet, we gather food and pack food boxes for as many as 300 local families each Christmas.  Also, each Christmas Eve a special mission offering is received to help in the most important area of need in our world at that time.
