Special Events

Throughout the year our Christian Education Board sponsors various special events in which our church family and youth can take part.  Some of these are done within the regular worship schedule, but a few take place outside of normal Sunday worship and are meant to be gatherings for families and friends.

ADVENT WORKSHOP This is a family event that usually takes place the second Sunday in Advent.  We gather for a huge potluck dinner in Pilgrim Hall, we sing Christmas Carols, enjoy a fellowship time and a time of Christmas Crafts set up for everyone to enjoy.  The Christian Education Board works very hard to make this a fun and successful event.  If you have an idea for a craft that you'd like to share, please contact a board member or the Church Office.

PROMOTION SUNDAY  This event marks the end of the regular Sunday School year and serves to recognize and acknowledge the children as they move up to the next class. We are also sure to thank those teachers who have spent so much time teaching and learning with our children. The second service on this Sunday is full of fun, laughter and families.  We often end with a B-B-Q in the Church Outdoor event area with games for the whole family.  Keep a look out for more information on this exciting end of the term event.

RALLY SUNDAY mark the start of our regular Sunday School year each September.  It's a time when we get everyone excited about the upcoming year, sign up parents for teaching positions through out the season, enroll children in classes, recruit for the youth positions in the Sacred Arts and generally get the ball rolling for a great and exciting time of learning about and sharing our faith.  If you're interested in being a part of this wonderful experience with our children, please contact a Christian Education Board member or the Church Office to see exactly how much of a help you can truly be.

SHROVE TUESDAY This is a rather new event in our church and is getting bigger and bigger every year.  Shrove Tuesday is the day before Lent begins.  We gather together in Pilgrim Hall for a pancake supper and some really great games... pancake flipping contests, and "housewife" races.  We also take time to reflect on the meaning of Lent and how we can come closer to Christ during this time of reflection that leads us to Easter.  This is a wonderful faith building event for the entire church family and we look forward to it becoming and larger and larger part of our calendar each year.  Please contact the Church Office if you're interested in helping plan or prepare for this event.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL
VBS is a special week of lessons, stories, songs and fun.  Each year in June, just after school ends and before summer school begins, we set aside the whole week to invite children from our church family, their friends and others from our community to learn about the love God has for us and the wonderful gift of Jesus.  Each year a different theme is chosen and we turn the church over to that whole idea.

This summer (June 21–25), we set sail for VBS fun! We felt the sea spray on your face as sails snaped overhead—and experienced the deep rolling waters of God’s love.  As always, VBS would not have been a success without all of our volunteer crew.  We had wonderful  Station  Leaders  &  Crew Leaders to facilitate this exciting outreach program to children in our church family as well as the community.  Thanks to Karrie Walker, Sue Trukken, Mary VanCleve, Karyn Smith, Linda Cunningham, Lisa Abbott, Kathering Abbott, Thomas Abbott, Vickie Timmerman, Sherry Torpin, Darlene McCreary, Ina Lowe, Jana Klingman, Glenda Snell, Patty Mussen and everyone in the church and community that helped to make this another successful VBS!!!  Watch this spot in the spring of 2011 to see what we're planning next.
