Some stories raise the hair on your arms. Others make you gasp, laugh, and grab your neighbor’s sleeve.
Join Storytellers of San Diego and host Emily Stamets for an evening of live, unplugged storytelling that lives in the thin places, where the veil between worlds wears down and something old looks back at you.
When Spirits Move: Tales of Awe and AH! gathers tales of the uncanny and the uplifting: restless ghosts and generous ones, bargains struck at crossroads, houses that remember, and quiet moments when the unseen makes itself known.
Told aloud in the oral tradition, these stories are meant to be heard in the dark, in company, as people have done around fires for as long as there have been fires.
Expect awe. Expect the sudden AH! of a story landing in your bones. Come for the chills, stay for the wonder, and leave with the sense that the world is a little more alive than you remembered.

About Emily Stamets
Emily Stamets is a storyteller and teaching artist with a background in theatre, education, and arts-integrated learning. She taught Theatre Arts for more than ten years and has co-created more than ten original productions with Rogue Artists Ensemble as a designer, playwright, and puppeteer. She studied Shakespeare performance and production with Shakespeare & Company and holds master’s degrees in Theatre Design & Production and School Leadership, with a focus on arts-integrated inclusive education.
Emily currently serves as Chapter Director of California Thespians and sits on the board of the National Storytelling Network. Her recent projects include The Crystal Kingdom, presented at the San Diego International Fringe Festival, and directing the San Diego Unified School District Honor Theatre Project for the La Jolla Playhouse WOW Festival. She primarily tells original fantasy stories featuring female protagonists and a modern lens.
